Angélica Gorodischer – Author, Argentina
Angélica Gorodischer is the author of fourteen novels and is
considered an exceptional short story writer in contemporary
Argentine literature. She is the winner of a number of awards, among
them: Premio de la Orden (1984), Premio Poblet (1984-85), Premio
Emecé (1985), Premio Gilgamesh of Spain (1991-93), Premio Xonex de
Platino (1993), and Premio Dignidad, awarded by the Permanent
Assembly of Human Rights (1996). Her works have been translated and
anthologized extensively in a number of editions. She is presently
organizing the conference of Latin American Women Writers in
Rosario, Argentina.
Marta Zabaleta – Professor, London
Marta Zabaleta is a senior lecturer in
Latin American Studies in the School of Humanities and Cultural
Studies at Middlesex University in London. She has organized
numerous seminars and symposia related to the Latin American woman
as well as the study of the feminine presence within the changing
social-cultural conditions of our century. Her next symposium will
take place in Varsovia in July of 2000.
María Negroni - Poet, writer, Argentina
Negroni is the author of numerous poetry books, among them: Bellos
Delirios (Ed. Museo Mayo, Colombia, 1987), Cage under Cover (Translated
by Anne Twitty (Sun and Moon Press); Islandia (Monte Avila
Ed., Caracas, 1994); El viaje de la Noche (Ed. Lumen,
Barcelona, 1994), and El sueno de Ursula, finalist in the
Premio Planeta for novels in 1998. María has received a number of
prestigious awards: The Guggenheim and the Rockefeller foundations’awards
in the United Sates, and the Maison des Ecrivains Etrangers in
France. She is currently a professor at Sarah Lawrence College in
New
York.
Agustín Nuñez - Director of Theater, Paraguay
He is an architect, a photographer, a set designer, a dramatist,
and an actor, as well as a director of theater and television. He
has directed more than one hundred theater productions including the
world premiere of Yo el Supremo and Hijo de Hombre, both
works by Augusto Roa Bastos (Premio Cervantes 1989- Spain). As an
art director, he has distinguished himself in the field of
cinematography. As dramatist, his works have been performed in
Asuncion, Paraguay; Buenos Aires, Argentina and in Pont A Mousson
and Avignon, France. Currently he is Director of the Instituto
Municipal de Arte at the municipality of Asuncion, and Director of
the Centro de Investigacion y Divulgacion Teatral.
Lea Fletcher – Feminaria's founder and
editor
Lea Fletcher, American, Doctor of Letters. She is best known as founder and director of Feminaria
(Argentina, 1988 to the present). Feminaria has gathered in its
pages the most complex and rigorous critical, social, and literary
works about women in developing countries. The lasting power of this
publication, the seminars and discussions conducted by Fletcher
represent, in many cases, true pioneer efforts in the world of Latin
American women writers.
Concha García – Poet, Spain
Concha García was born in La Rambla but has resided most of her
life in Barcelona. Included in her many published poetic works are: Por
mi no arderan los quicios ni se quemaran las teas (Aula Negra,
Universidad de Leon, 1986); Otra Ley (Valencia, Victor Orenga,
1987); Ya nada es rito (de Poesias Barcarola's First Prize,
Diputacion de Albacete, 1988); Desden (Madrid,
Libertarias-Prodhufi, (1990); Pormenor (Madrid, Libertarias,
1993), and Ayer y calles (Jaime Gil de Biedma's Prize, Madrid,
Visor, 1994). Her work also appears in these anthologies: La
prueba del nueve (Madrid, Catedra, 1994) and in Ellas tienen
la palabra (Madrid, Hiperion, 1997).
FACULTY HONARARY MEMBERS
Judy B. McInnis – Professor, University of
Delaware
Judy McInnis is associate professor of Comparative
Literature and Women Studies at the University of Delaware. She has
published several studies in various academic journals about Sor Juana
Ines de la Cruz, Federico García Lorca, Gabriela Mistral, Rosario
Castellanos, Octavio Paz, among others. Currently she is preparing a
compilation of medieval and critical essays about women’s poetry. Ms
McInnis is an accomplished novelist and translator.
Rei Berroa- Professor, George Mason University
Rei Berroa is associate professor of XIX and XX century
Spanish literature and culture. He has published numerous critical works
on XX century Spanish literature, among them his book: Ideologia y
retorica: las prosas de guerra de Miguel Hernandez (Mexico: Ed.
Libros de Mexico, 1988). A second volume is in preparation: La
imaginacion triangular, which, starting with Garcia Lorca, examines
the literary experience throughout the XX century. Many of his articles
have been published in Discurso Literario, Texto Crítico, and the
Hispanic Journal. Professor Berroa is founder of the journal Mundo:
Problemas y Confrontaciones, published in Mexico. He has published
several poetry collections, and is academic advisor for George Mason’s
journal the Hispanic Review.
