"15th International Symposium on Latin American
Indian Literatures."

FCI will be one of the sponsors in
cooperation with the Society of Women Geographers. This event will
take place in Washington, D.C., at the Library of Congress, 15-17
June 2000. Event's Director : Dr. Mary Preuss. More Info.

Spanish
Women Writers in Translation: Translation as an Art Form |
Gallaudet University and FCI will jointly sponsor the first
conference on Latin America and Spanish women authors in
translation, to be held on October 13-14, 2000. The
event will be bilingual in Spanish and English, and signed for the
hearing-impaired. Director of this event: Prof. Michael Miller.
Dr. Miller has translated three novels:
A Place Called Milagro de la Paz by Manlio Argueta of
El Salvador. Spanish original: Milagro de la Paz (Curbstone
Press, 2000)
A Woman With Short Hair and Great Legs by Cristina
Gutiérrez Richaud of Guadalajara, México. Spanish
original: Mujer de cabellos cortos y buenas piernas.
Unpublished.
With Every Drop of Blood of the Wound by Manuel
Corleto of Guatemala. Spanish original: Con cada gota
de sangre de la herida. Unpublished.

Borgesias 2000
One
day conference dedicated to Jorge Luis Borges. |
Roberto Alifano, poet, director of the journal Proa,
which is published in Buenos Aires, will present an exceptional one
day conference dedicated to Jorge Luis Borges. Mr. Alifano
will talk about his work with Borges during the last ten years of
the author's life, and their unique friendship.
